Maelstrom

Postscript to a Prequel

In New Orleans Jews join the Krewe de Jew
And throw glittery bagels instead of beads to the mob
The Mardi Gras bagel is the Jewish Zulu coconut
Don’t tell your mamele what the girls do for the grab
In New Orleans Jews lament the hexed Saints
And wear paper bags on their heads at football games
If God willing the team makes it to the playoffs
The rebbe leads the congregation through the streets
Playing When the Saints Go Marching In on the shofar
In New Orleans the Jews listen to the blues
In New Orleans Jews listen to the jazz
In New Orleans the Jews will sometimes eat ribs
In New Orleans some Jews will eat red bugs
In New Orleans the Jews put honey on their grits
In New Orleans Jews run for mayor and Carnival royalty
It’s known that Judah P. Benjamin was Vice President
of the Confederacy
And Elvis was a shabbos goy
In New Orleans Jews fear only amnesia
